Ready, Set, Wear It! Event Ideas

Need help planning a Ready, Set, Wear It! Life Jacket World Record Day event? Get inspired with the help of events already planned around the world!

  • Host an open house! The Alameda Community Sailing Center in California event will be an open house with BBQ, sailboat rides, and a youth lifejacket giveaway. What a great way to give back to the community while at the same time promoting life jacket wear.
  • Make it kid-friendly! The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in California will be putting on an “Expect the Unexpected” puppet show during their event.
  • Invite a subject matter expert! Fishing Has No Boundaries invited Indiana Conservation officers for a brief safety talk followed by a photo of all the fishing participants wearing their life jackets.
  • Combine your event with another community event! Cabela’s in Montana will be celebrating both a Hometown Heroes event and Ready, Set, Wear It! on May 20.
  • Teach a boating safety education course! The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in New York will be offering a FREE 8-hour boating safety class for the first 24 people to sign-up.
  • Have a family picnic! Jones Beach Power Squadron in New York will be serving up hot dogs and life jacket safety on May 20.
  • Mix the message! U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 12-02 in Virginia teamed up with Ace Hardware to teach boaters not only about life jackets, but also about other important boating safety messages including navigation aids, VHF Marine radios, emergency distress technology, flares, and more.
  • Get social! Huge shoutout to K38 Rescue for creating social media pages specifically for their events, which are going to be held worldwide.
  • Give away free stuff! You can’t go wrong with free food. Especially when coupled with a fun photo booth! Multiple events at Cabela’s in Canada and the U.S. will use food and a photo booth to attract more people to this educational life jacket event.
