Wear it for life! Everyone on board needs to wear their life jacket, even if they don’t plan on getting in the water. Many drownings happen to people who did not expect to be in the water. Life jackets only work if they fit properly and are buckled. We care about your safety and want your visit to Lake Mohave to be a happy memory.

The Ready Set Wear It campaign is a solution for not just the recreational enthusiasts but we still have far too many professional marine unit operators who are not wearing a USCG approved lifejacket.  Our mission is to support and influence those who need to WEAR it!

Time: 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Event Description: Park Rangers at Black Butte Lake will demonstrate proper life jacket fit to kids. Once the kids learn how to properly fit themselves in a life-jacket they will participate in a relay race. During the race the kids will be placed in two lines. A pile of life jackets of varying sizes will be placed approximately 50 yards from the starting line. At the sound of a whistle, the kids at the front of the line will race towards the pile of life jackets, dig through the pile, find the life-jacket that fits them properly, put it on correctly, and race back to their line. Once the first child returns to the line they will remove their life jacket, give it to the next child in line. The second child races down to the pile, returns their life-jacket to the pile, finds the life-jacket that fits them properly, puts it on correctly, and races back to the line to tag the next child. This process continues until everyone in the line has participated. The line with a combination of the fastest time and highest number of proper fits wins. Water safety coloring books, cups, flying discs, and temporary tattoos will be given to all participants. During this event, Park Rangers will also interact with adults about the importance of wearing a life-jacket while in or around water.
